Smögåsbord

On Sunday, 15th November 2009, at the Daaga Auditorium of UWI St. Augustine, tenor Edward Cumberbatch and Classical Guitarist Anders Kappel Øvre will present a Smögåsbord of music from 5:00 p.m. Featuring the Renaissance period and moving through Baroque, English folk songs, Brazilian Samba and Bossa Nova, the programme will showcase the voice of Edward and guitar of Anders in various settings.

The Renaissance music will be presented both as solo voice with guitar as well as in a vocal quartet accompanied by guitar. The Brazilian fare will feature a small combo for the Bossa Nova/Samba as well as the two-hander format once again, for popular Brazilian music.The composers featured will range from Englishmen John Dowland and Benjamin Britten to Brazilians Baden Powell, Luis Bonfa and Antonio Carlos Jobim.

>is the most celebrated tenor voice in Trinidad and Tobago. He sings opera, oratorio, lieder, spirituals, art songs and gospel songs in several languages. Based in Trinidad and Tobago, he has had several solo recitals and performances in the Caribbean, the United States, Canada and Germany.

In 1987, Edward joined the Lydian Singers under the direction of Ms. Pat Bishop. From that time to the present, Ms Bishop has been Edward’s singing coach. As a Lydian, he has performed as a soloist in many works. In 1997 Edward won the senior Vocal Recital Class at the International Eisteddfod of South Africa.

Anders Kappel Øvre was born and raised on the island of Mors on the North West coast of Denmark. From an early age he was captivated by the sound of the Guitar, and studied this instrument at the Royal Danish Conservatory of music (1993 - 1999) under the guidance of Lars Trier.
